Glasgow Music’s three year project celebrating and exploring the music of Beethoven culminates in a weekend of performances at the City Halls, Glasgow from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September.
The weekend offers the chance to hear music from Beethoven the juvenile, the mature man and work composed in his last decade.
The project has been led by Glasgow Music’s Resident Artists, Pianist Llŷr Williams and the Elias Quartet, and they will once again take to the Grand Hall stage to perform this autumn.
Writer, lecturer, broadcaster and Beethoven expert Richard Wigmore will also host on stage discussions from the musicians to give a fascinating added dimension to the performances.
The programme includes the Piano Sonata No 8 in C minor, Op. 13 ‘Pathetique’; Piano Sonata No 15 in D, Op. 28 ‘Pastoral’; the Gross Fuge, Op 133; and the Variations & Fuge in E flat major, Op. 35, ‘Eroica Variations’.
A special prelude to the weekend will take place on Thursday 24 September at 7pm in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. In the Linn Lounge: Beethoven the audience will be seated on the Main Stage for this limited availability event to listen to Beethoven’s music played by Artur Pizzaro and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra on a Linn System in Studio Master, which allows the listener to hear a recording exactly the way the original artist and producer intended it to sound, before it was altered to fit on a CD or squashed down to MP3 size.
