BBC Radio 3 presenter Stephen Johnson, with the help of the BBC SSO and conductor Diego Masson, explores the magnificent sound world of Messiaen’s L’ascension (The Ascension). Written between 1932 and 1933 it is a sequence of four meditations on religious themes on religious themes and is the most famous of the composer’s early orchestral scores.

Part of the BBC SSO’s Sacred and Profane series.
