Glasgow’s Concert Halls launches its first world music club night, Music Without Borders. We’ll be breaking down the geographical, cultural and genre borders of music to bring you an exciting fusion of sounds from truly world class artists.

Our first night of Music Without Borders features World music sensation, Márta Sebestyén who is best known for her Oscar-winning contribution to the soundtrack of The English Patient. Having also won a Grammy for her album Deep Forest and appeared on Peter Gabriel’s Big Blue Ball album, she appears tonight with her trio featuring Balázs Szokolay Dongó (bagpipe/flutes/saxophone) and Mátyás Bolya (Moldavian lute/zither).

Also on the bill are kolektifistanbul, the Istanbul-based Balkan music ensemble known for their blend of traditional Balkan tunes and funk and jazz elements. The six-piece band, featuring Asli Dogan on vocals, will present a selection of songs with a great richness of sound combining both the Balkan fanfare dynamism and the Anatolian “blues” depth.

Completing the line-up is Huun Huur Tu who have emerged as the foremost international representative of Tuva’s remarkable musical culture. Tuvans not only transform the sounds of the natural world into music through imitation; they also make sonic “maps” of physical landscapes which may be expressed in texted songs, throat-singing, whistling, or other types of vocal production.
