Best known to jazz audiences through dissecting great jazz solos on Radio Scotland’s The Jazzhouse, Richard Michael performs standards and the music of Burns from his first solo album The Deil’s Awa’ Wi’ The Jazzman.
Many musicians, when asked about their years of study, mention the influence of a particular teacher. Richard says, “I learned to play in all twelve keys through accompanying drunks, and that taught me more about harmony than any text-book!”
Tonight, Richard will also improvise on any themes known to him suggested by the audience – and in any key! Don’t miss this chance to hear the highly entertaining 2009 Parliamentary Awards Jazz Educator of the Year.
