This event is part of Kronos in Glasgow
Four Scottish premieres and two godfathers of Minimalism – both of them key figures in the Kronos story.
This opening concert sees Kronos Quartet perform Steve Reich’s latest work for them, join forces with the National Youth Choir of Scotland (for Riley in playful mood and Gordon in blazing form). And finally they abandon their usual instruments to play the amazing ‘fences’ – onstage sculptures that they ‘play’ with bows and plucking.
Steve Reich’s WTC 9/11 promises to be many things. Those initials and that terrible date refer of course to the World Trade Center in New York; but also to the consolations of Bach’s Well Tempered Clavier – and optimistically, also to World To Come. Created this year for Kronos, the quartet does us the honour of giving WTC 9/11 its first Scottish performance in Glasgow.
Kronos Quartet: Jon Rose / Music From 4 Fences from Kronos Quartet.
Highlights from Kronos Quartet's exclusive concert in Hamilton Mausoleum will be broadcast in the Exhibition Hall as pre-concert entertainment from 5pm - 8pm.
