Michael Collins has been the foremost clarinet player in this country ever since his appearance on BBC Young Musician of the Year at the age of 16. For us he brings together some of the gems of the English repertoire. Both the Bax and Howells pieces were premiered by another great player of last century – Frederick Thurston, and judging from the music he was clearly a virtuoso of the first order. Fireworks and fantasy rule the day. Collins has one or two surprises up his sleeve to complete the programme…
