City Halls : Grand Hall

Dutch cellist Pieter Wispelwey was the first cellist ever to win the Netherlands Music Prize. A flamboyant and powerful performer he is equally at ease on the contemporary or the period cello and therefore covers an extremely wide repertoire.

Known for his stylistic awareness and phenomenal technical mastery, he has appeared as a recitalist all over the world including at the Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall and Sydney Opera House to great acclaim:

a responsive and impassioned interpreter without using virtuosity for its own sake (The New York Times)
