One of the most sought after performing artists of our time, “the man with the golden flute”.
Sir James Galway returns to Glasgow for his 70th Birthday Recital. A supreme interpreter of the classical flute repertoire, he is a consummate entertainer whose appeal crosses all musical boundaries.
The hard-working musician has achieved legendary status and has enjoyed an illustrious career. Galway was principal flute with the Berlin Philharmonic before he was 30 and has sold over 30 million recordings worldwide, performed with the world’s great conductors and has been honoured with a knighthood and an honorary Doctorate of Music from the University of St Andrews.
Most recently he was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame and he continues to look for new and innovative approaches to music. He has limitless ambition and vision, and shows no signs of slowing down having recently recorded music from the jazz suites of Claude Bolling, with the addition of Afro Cuban percussion, and collaborating with Grammy nominated Cuban timba music group,Tiempo Libre.
Tonight he appears with his wife and accomplished flutist Lady Jeanne Galway, as well as leading Northern Irish pianist Michael McHale.
