BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra: Runnicles and Bruckner 8

Thursday 21st January 2010, 7.30pm

City Halls : Grand Hall

Please Note: This is a past event event.

Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.

“The work of a giant” is how Hugo Wolf described Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony, and the symphony itself is a giant, with its full panoply of horns and Wagner tubas. Perhaps Bruckner’s greatest work, it is a huge challenge to any orchestra and conductor – but BBC SSO Chief Conductor Donald Runnicles has a distinguished track record as a Bruckner interpreter, and this performance is certain to be one of the major events of the season.

6.45pm Pre-Concert Prelude (in the Recital Room): Stephen Johnson, author of Bruckner Remembered, explores the composer’s mighty Eighth Symphony.

Please note there will be no coda after this concert.

Tickets for this concert can also be purchased as part of a season subscription.
