BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra: Rachmaninov's Second
City Halls : Grand Hall
Please Note: This is a past event event.
Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.
Michal Dworzynski, a welcome visitor to the BBC SSO, ends this concert with the vast, richly romantic canvas of Rachmaninov’s most popular symphony. The stormy drama and endless outpouring of great melodies in the Second Symphony never fails to raise the roof. As an ideal foil for the Rachmaninov – Stravinsky’s cool, elegant Violin Concerto is played here by young Moscow-born violinist Boris Brovtsyn.
6.15pm Pre-Concert Prelude (in the Recital Room): Geoffrey Baskerville discusses the enduring popularity of Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony.
Post-Concert Coda (approximately 10 minutes after the end of the main concert): Boris Brovtsyn gives a short solo recital.
Please note that Vassily Sinaisky is unfortunately no longer able to conduct this concert; however, we are delighted to welcome Michal Dworzynski as a replacement. The programme remains as originally advertised.
This concert is part of the BBC SSO’s North by North-East series.
