BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra: Dvorák's 'New World Symphony'
Thursday 12th November 2009, 7.00pm
City Halls : Grand Hall

The young Czech pianist Ivo Kahanek had a major success with Martinu’s music at the 2007 BBC Proms, and he launches the Bohemian Rhapsodies series with the composer’s powerful Third Piano Concerto. Dvorák’s great New World Symphony was composed when he was living in the United States, it’s a work that amply justifies its status as one of the best loved symphonies of all.
6.15pm Pre-Concert Prelude (in the Recital Room): Stephen Johnson discusses Czech musical connections.
Post-Concert Coda (approximately 10 minutes after the end of the main concert)
Ivo Kahanek plays excerpts from Janácek’s On an Overgrown Path.
This concert is part of the BBC SSO’s Bohemian Rhapsodies series.
