Scottish Chamber Orchestra Season 09:10 : Ticciati and Kozená

Friday 11th December 2009, 7.30pm

City Halls : Grand Hall

Please Note: This is a past event event.

Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.

Robin Ticciati makes his hotly-anticipated debut as Principal Conductor with two programmes that span two centuries of song, scena, symphony and theatre.

These are big concerts in every way. Pairing the expansive riches of Brahms with the intense, dark drama of Mahler’s songs makes for a gripping contrast. Magdalena Kozená, one of the world’s greatest singers, is sure to give spine-tingling interpretations.

5:15pm-6:15pm Comparing Notes (free to ticket holders): Do you enjoy a good chat about music? Comparing Notes is the SCO’s new informal and in-depth discussion group held in the Scottish Music Centre at City Halls – not only does it offer you the chance to learn about some of the music before you hear it, but it also gives you the opportunity to reflect on the concerts, discuss them and lots more in future weeks. If you would like to join the group, please contact Kirsten Hunter on 0131 478 8353 or Kirsten.hunter@sco.org.uk

6.30pm Pre-concert talk (free to ticket holders): Introducing Robin Ticciati.

The SCO’s new Principal Conductor is a young Londoner who has already made his mark on the international music scene with appearances at La Scala, Milan; Salzburg Festival and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and with the Leipzig Gewandhaus, Dresden Staatskapelle, Rotterdam Philharmonic and BBC Philharmonic Orchestras amongst many others.

This should be a crack combination, and he will find the orchestra in terrifically good shape. (The Daily Telegraph)
