Janácek’s piano miniatures are the reflections of an old man, telling tales from his life in dramatic, intense music.

Master colourist, David Matthews, transformed them into an orchestral suite for the SCO at the 2008 Edinburgh International Festival; this is a second chance to enjoy his marvellous achievement. This is poignant music, all the more so when heard in the company of two other great composers who never lived to old age.
