The outstanding Academy of St Martin in the Fields that entranced audiences on its last visit to Glasgow in 2007 makes a welcome return, this time to appear with one of today’s most sought-after soloists, Michael Collins.

***** Hats off to the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, an orchestra in a thousand which gave a concert in a million last night in the Royal Concert Hall. (Michael Tumelty, The Herald)

Its literally record-breaking discography boasts well over 500 entries and it is particularly well-known for its Mozart recordings. As well as being the most recorded chamber orchestra in the world, it also maintains a busy schedule of international touring.

British clarinettist, Michael Collins is one of the world’s leading woodwind players. His dazzling virtuosity and sensitive musicianship has led to a varied career from orchestral player, chamber music colleague, soloist, to more recently director of his own ensemble, London Winds.

Tonight the audience will enjoy the world premiere of Mozart’s Concerto in E flat, K.268, on clarinet as Collins is proud to have exclusive rights to the first contemporary performances of the concerto in this form – until now the concerto has been associated with the violin.

Collins’ effortless and engaging interpretation was a delight. (The Scotsman)
