Jagjit Singh is the leading exponent of the art of Ghazal singing (Ghazal Gayaki), a form of Indian Classical music that he is accredited with reviving singlehandedly.

Performing as a duo with wife Chitra Singh, he changed the prevalent format of Ghazal rendition by introducing western instruments such as guitar, violin and piano into it, while retaining its Indian Classical structure, giving one of the most beautiful yet dying musical traditions a new lease of life.

His unique style of composing and ethereal voice have acquired him a legendary stature among his many fans worldwide, and songs such as Hoton Se Choolo Tum, Tumko Dekha To Ye Khayal Aaya and Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho have become all time favourites for three generations of music lovers.
