The final concert of the season celebrates the musical genius of Mendelssohn in his 200th anniversary year. His rarely performed D minor Violin Concerto, which was discovered and premièred at Carnegie Hall, New York in 1952 by Yehudi Menuhin complements two contrasting masterpieces by Biber and Tchaikovsky, one a labour of love and homage to his idol, Mozart, and the other an exuberant exploration of sound from 1673.
