Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.

“Every inch the romantic visionary” is how one critic described Alexander Melnikov, an ideal qualification for the famous Paganini Rhapsody, which is Rachmaninov at his most brilliantly virtuosic, contrasting strongly with the darkly brooding colours of The Isle of the Dead.

Associate Guest Conductor Stefan Solyom ends the concert with the ravishing colours of Stravinsky’s popular early ballet The Firebird.

6:15pm Pre-concert prelude (in the Recital Room): Stephen Johnson discusses diversity of style in the music of Stravinsky and Rachmaninov.

Post-concert coda (approximately 10 minutes after main concert): Alexander Melnikov plays Stravinsky’s own piano transcription of Three Movements from Petrushka.

Tickets:  £23, £19, £16, £10
