Thursday 9th October 2008, 7.30pm

City Halls : Grand Hall

Stefan Solyom brings the ultimate piece of musical story telling to City Halls with Rimsky-Korsakov’s gorgeously romantic depiction of tales from 1001 Nights, and starts the evening with one of Dvorák’s most graphically dramatic pieces inspired by a Bohemian folk-tale.

The young German violinist Viviane Hagner is a hot property on the international stage these days, and she completes this romantic programme with Szymanowski’s opulent and exotic First Violin Concerto.

6:45pm Pre-concert prelude (in the Recital Room): Anthony Sayer in conversation with Stefan Solyom and Elizabeth Layton (Leader BBC SSO) about Scheherazade.

Post-concert coda (approximately 10 minutes after main concert): Viviane Hagner plays JS Bach’s Chaconne in D minor.

Tickets:  £23, £19, £16, £10
