Michal Dworzynski opens this concert with an attractive, typically romantic piece by his countryman Karlowicz and closes with the still-extraordinary dynamic force of nature that is Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.

In Dvorák’s Cello Concerto he’s joined by one of BBC Radio 3’s New Generation Artists, the remarkable young German-Japanese cellist Danjulo Ishizaka.

6:45pm Pre-concert prelude (in the Recital Room): Anthony Sayer talks to Danjulo Ishizaki about the enduring popularity of Dvorák’s Cello Concerto.

Post-concert coda (approximately 10 minutes after main concert): Danjulo Ishizaki plays JS Bach’s Suite No.1 in G major BWV1007 (for unaccompanied cello).
