BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra: Thursday Night Series: The Symphonic Collection: Bruckner 9

City Halls : Grand Hall

Please Note: This is a past event event.

Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.

The grand hall at City Halls, with its rich, resonant yet intimate acoustic, has already proved a wonderful venue for Bruckner, so Ilan Volkov’s interpretation of his inspiring last symphony will be eagerly awaited.

He couples the Bruckner with the first Scottish performance of a major new piece that the BBC SSO’s Composer in Association wrote especially for the orchestra.

Regarded as one of the world’s finest composers using traditional instruments with live electronics, Jonathan Harvey combines brilliantly imaginative orchestral writing and computer technology to provide a memorable musical experience.

6:45pm Pre-concert prelude (in the Recital Room): Gavin Reid, Director BBC SSO, in conversation with Ilan Volkov and Jonathan Harvey.

Post-concert coda (approximately 10 minutes after main concert): A performance of Jonathan Harvey’s Other Presences played by BBC SSO principal trumpet Mark O’Keeffe, with sound projection by Alistair MacDonald.
