BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra: Thursday Night Series: The Symphonic Collection: Tchaikovsky 4
Thursday 23rd October 2008, 7.30pm
City Halls : Grand Hall

Distinguished American conductor Andrew Litton makes a welcome return to the BBC SSO, bringing with him Gershwin’s racy piano concerto – an ideal vehicle for the prodigiously gifted young Canadian pianist Stewart Goodyear, at 27 already a regular soloist with the major North American orchestras.
35-year-old American John Mackey has been making a name for himself as a brilliant composer for dance, and his Redline Tango makes a colourfully energetic opener.
Andrew Litton’s special affinity with Russian music promises a powerful and memorable interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s most popular symphony.
6:45pm Pre-concert prelude (in the Recital Room): Andrew Litton on the magic of Gershwin.
Post-concert coda (approximately 10 minutes after main concert): Stewart Goodyear plays music of his own and by Maurice Ravel.
