Ilan Volkov has given many truly memorable concerts with the BBC SSO during his tenure as Chief Conductor.

In this concert he launches his final season at the helm of the orchestra with a sensational programme culminating in Beethoven’s great symphonic homage to the brotherhood of man, with a superb choir and a fine team of soloists coming together in the Ode to Joy.

The programme begins with Janácek’s powerful and passionate ‘rhapsody’ depicting dramatic scenes from Gogol’s novel about the Cossack leader Taras Bulba.

6:45pm Pre-concert prelude (in the Recital Room): Roger Wright, Controller BBC Radio 3 and Director BBC Proms, and Gavin Reid, Director BBC SSO, discuss the forthcoming season.

Post-concert coda (approximately 10 minutes after main concert): Neal Davies gives a short vocal recital.

Tickets:  £23, £19, £16, £10
