To open their spring concerts, the Scottish Ensemble is re-united with the virtuosic percussionist Colin Currie, in a programme that includes Mozart’s Divertimento in F K138, Stravinsky’s Apollon Musagète, and a world premiere performance of a new Scottish Ensemble and Wigmore Hall co-commission by Kurt Schwertsik, an Austrian composer whose witty, mercurial music is sure to stimulate and delight.
Now you hear me, now you don’t was specially written for the combined forces of Colin and the Ensemble and will be a rare chance to hear the giant five octave marimba played by one of the world’s leading musicians.
There is an opportunity for young people attending the Scottish Ensemble’s performance this afternoon to participate in a percussion workshop with Colin Currie during the second half of the concert. At the end of the first half of the concert, children and young people will have a choice either to stay in the concert hall for the second half to hear Stravinsky’s Apollon Musagète, or join a workshop held in the Old Fruitmarket with Colin and friends, in a room full of percussion instruments. The workshop will be based upon and explore the music and musical ideas heard during the first half of the concert. The workshop is free to young ticket holders – reserve your place when booking your ticket for the concert.
This workshop is suitable for young people over the age of 7.
