The tenor saxophonist has a new band, featuring top Irish guitarist, Mark McNight; but the old virtues remain. Wiszniewski commands a stage. There’s an urgency and directness in his playing, but he can shape the structure of a song and the sound of the band, as he drives. He’s written some very catchy tunes, but likes to counterbalance with old standards. It’s an exciting mix for audiences who like the mainstream of modern jazz, with plenty of energy, rhythmic and melodic.
