Donald Runnicles and James MacMillan are without doubt two of Scotland’s greatest musical exports.

Here Donald Runnicles returns to conduct the Song Symphony that marked the dusk of Mahler’s compositional life: Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth). Silence, both literal and metaphoric, frames James MacMillan’s clear and stark Third Symphony.

6:45pm Pre-concert Prelude: Peter Franklin, Professor of Music at Oxford University, on Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde.

Post-concert Coda (approximately 10 minutes after main concert): BBC Radio Scotland’s Mary Ann Kennedy in conversation with Donald Runnicles.

Tickets:  £21.50, £17.50, £15, £9
