Vassily Sinaisky is always a popular guest with the BBC SSO and in recent years this outstanding Russian conductor has begun to explore the music of British composers with marvellous results.
Here he conducts Walton's precocious First Symphony whose driving energy and dramatic climaxes makes it one of the greatest of all British symphonies.
Internationally admired soloist James Ehnes makes a welcome return to Glasgow to play Beethoven's supreme Violin Concerto.
6:45pm - Pre-concert Prelude: Gavin Reid, Director BBC SSO, in conversation with James Ehnes.
Post-concert Coda: James Ehnes plays Bartók's Rhapsody No.2.
