BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Thursday Night Series: Segerstam & Sibelius

City Halls : Grand Hall

Please Note: This is a past event event.

Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.

Leif Segerstam, a musical giant – in every sense – is undoubtedly one of today’s most important interpreters of Nordic music.

We welcome him back to the podium at City Halls to conduct one of his many symphonies, as well as the music of Sibelius for which he is justly famous. Here he guides the orchestra through the ethereal Pohjola’s Daughter and releases the taut strength of Nielsen’s Fifth Symphony.

Pre-Concert Prelude (6.45pm in the Grand Hall): Writer and broadcaster Stephen Johnson talks about two 20th century Nordic masterpieces, Pohjola’s Daughter and Nielsen’s Fifth Symphony.

Post-Concert Coda (approximately 10 minutes after main concert): Yann Ghiro, principal clarinet BBC SSO, gives a short solo recital.

Tickets:  £21.50, £17.50, £15, £9
