The opening concert of the BBC SSO’s Thursday Night Concert Series is inspired by heavenly bodies.

Gustav Holst created unforgettable portraits of the Planets’ menace, mysticism and joy in his spellbinding flight through the solar system and we pair it with Saariaho’s 4179: Toutatis, named after a large orbiting asteroid.

We are delighted to welcome back Steven Osborne – widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading pianists – to perform Britten’s Piano Concerto.

Pre-Concert Prelude (6.45pm in the Grand Hall): Ilan Volkov and Gavin Reid, Director BBC SSO, look ahead to the new season.

Post-Concert Coda (approximately 10 minutes after main concert): Steven Osborne and the strings of the BBC SSO perform Britten’s Young Apollo.

Tickets:  £21.50, £17.50, £9
