International Classical Season 2007/2008 Piano Legends: Angela Hewitt in Recital (Book II)

Monday 19th May 2008, 7.00pm

City Halls : Grand Hall

In a fitting finale to our Piano Legends series of concerts within the International Classical Season, the pre-eminent Bach pianist of our time, Angela Hewitt, will perform both Books of J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier (The 48 Preludes and Fugues).

City Halls will provide the ideal setting for the concerts which take place over two evenings - Book I on Saturday and Book II on Monday. The individual recitals will be performed entirely from memory.

Hewitt has received international recognition for her interpretation of Bach. This concert is the only Scottish date in her Bach World Tour that celebrates her 11-year project to record all of Bach's major keyboard work.

The paramount quality of Angela Hewitt's piano playing is the joy it communicates. Underpinning it there is incontrovertible intellectual rigour; and there are great reserves of wisdom and technical finesse. (The Daily Telegraph)
