BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra The Thursday Night Series: The Romantic, the Revolutionary & the Rebel 3

City Halls : Grand Hall

Please Note: This is a past event event.

Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.

Please note that there has been a change of soloist for tonight’s performance – Nelson Freire is unfortunately and at short notice indisposed and John Lill will be taking his place. The prgramme remains unchanged.

Brazilian virtuoso Nelson Freire is one of the most acclaimed pianists of today; here he joins the BBC SSO for two concerts.

First, he is soloist in Brahms’ sweeping and lyrical Second Piano Concerto. Premiered in 1881, it is still considered by pianists to be one of the most difficult yet striking concertos in the repertoire: a perfect musical prelude to Bartók’s intricate Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta.

Pre-Concert Prelude (6.45pm in the Grand Hall): Gavin Reid, Director BBC SSO, discusses Brahms and Bartók with Stefan Solyom.

Post-Concert Coda (approximately 10 minutes after main concert): Nelson Freire in a short solo recital of music by Brahms.

Tickets:  £21.50, £17.50, £15, £9
