Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1 is the quintessential Romantic showpiece, beloved by audiences and violinists alike, and to perform tonight is Jennifer Pike, former BBC Young Musician of the Year. Scotland’s Edward McGuire and Czech master Antonin Dvorák might not seem like obvious bedfellows, but in this programme both composers present nationalistic works of powerful and varied moods.

Pre-Concert Prelude (6.45pm in the Grand Hall): BBC Radio Scotland’s Mary Ann Kennedy in conversation with Edward McGuire.

Post-Concert Coda (approximately 10 minutes after main concert): Edward McGuire (flute) is joined by one of his colleagues from The Whistlebinkies in a selection of his own compositions.

Tickets:  £21.50, £17.50, £15, £9
