This concert is a chance for me to express my own voice using large musical forces. Writing new music allows me freedom to explore elements from a range of styles that have influenced me up to now. (Chris Stout)

The opening concert at The City Halls is a unique celebration of Scotland’s Music, with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Shetland fiddler Chris Stout performs his brand new BBC Scotland commission.

Following the premiere the orchestra will accompany Gaelic singer James Graham and Scottish singers Karine Polwart and Michael Marra performing some of their best loved songs. The BBC Scottish Symphony also perform Edward McGuire’s masterpiece Calgacus, depicting the Celtic leader’s resistance to the Roman Empire and featuring The Whistlebinkie’s Rab Wallace on Highland Bagpipes.

Part of Scotland’s Music 07 – celebrating a myriad of musical styles on BBC Scotland, TV, radio and online.
