Songs of Conscience with Tom Paxton and Roy Bailey
Glasgow Royal Concert Hall : Main Auditorium
Please Note: This is a past event event.
Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.
Building on the success of previous vocal extravaganzas like Gaelic Women and Scottish Men, the two Songs of Conscience concerts at this year’s Celtic Connections both feature an international cast of top vocal talent, united by their commitment to songs that engage with political, moral, social and spiritual issues.
The shows are also intended to honour Glasgow’s illustrious place in the joint history of folk music and political activism, presenting the types of songs and singers once heard in the bars of the Broomielaw on the city’s most prestigious stage.
From the US, tonight’s programme features Tom Paxton, an enduring icon from the 1960s Greenwich Village scene, who celebrates his 70th birthday this year.
Joining him will be the redoubtable Scottish triumvirate of Dick Gaughan, Brian McNeill and Archie Fisher, together with ex-Moving Heart Mick Hanly, rising Canadian star Gordie Sampson and British socialist singer and songwriter Roy Bailey, described by Tony Benn as “…the greatest socialist folksinger of his generation”.
