BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Thursday Night Series

City Halls : Grand Hall

Please Note: This is a past event event.

Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.

When Benjamin Britten turned a tune by Purcell into his guide to the orchestra, he created a skilful vehicle in which every section gets a chance to shine. His sparkling arrangement of one of Mahler’s great songs sits happily with Shostakovich’s famous cello concerto: a natural collaboration for the combined youthful talents of Alban Gerhardt and Stefan Solyom.

6.45pm Pre-concert Prelude (free to ticket holders): the BBC SSO’s Director, Gavin Reid, looks ahead to the next concert season, whilst casting a thoughtful eye over the orchestra’s first year at City Halls.

Post-concert Coda (free to ticket holders): Alban Gerhardt plays Max Reger’s solo Sonata.
