Chopin once said, “Beethoven snaps his fingers at the whole world”. Beethoven’s Second Piano Concerto is one of the composer’s most romantically inspired works and here features the superb playing of Robert Levin.
The BBC SSO is under the baton of Nicholas McGegan, a much-loved guest at City Halls, who brings his world renowned abilities to two works inspired by Scotland, Sally Beamish’s chamber sized concerto for orchestra Sangsters and Mendelssohn’s brooding Scottish Symphony.
Pre-Concert Prelude: (6.45pm in the Grand Hall): Sally Beamish in conversation with Simon Lord, the BBC SSO’s senior music producer. Free to ticket holders.
Coda: BBC SSO principal Alan Mathison plays Variations for Solo Bass Trombone by Sally Beamish.
