The Greek legend of Andromeda is invoked in James Dillon’s dramatic new piano concerto, performed by pianist Noriko Kawai. This totally compelling and virtuosic new work receives its Scottish Premiere. Also in this programme, the BBC SSO and Chief Conductor Ilan Volkov are in their modern music element, with UK premiere of eclectic French-Canadian composer Claude Vivier’s mystic Siddhartha, written for an orchestra divided into eight groups, contrasting driving tonality with non-western rhythmic influences.
