City Halls : Grand Hall

Please Note: This is a past event event.

Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.

Osmo Vänskä’s revelatory readings of Sibelius’s music with the BBC SSI at City Halls were a phenomenal success. He returns to Glasgow, with the Helsinki University Male Voice Choir, to conduct Sibelius’s early song symphony, Kullervo, a powerful portrait of one of Finnish legends most colourful characters. The evening opens with the Third Symphony, arguably one of the composer’s most classical creations.

Pre-Concert Prelude: Michael Tumelty, Chief Music Critic of The Herald, examines the impact of the BBC SSO’s first Sibelius cycle in Glasgow, almost ten years ago.

Post-Concert Coda: The Helsinki University Male Voice Choir in an a cappella performance of Nordic songs.
