classical music unveiled before your very ears
NEW! A chance not only to hear sensational music but discover a bit more about it. For beginners and aficionados alike, the irrepressible Paul Rissmann will be our classical guide, using multimedia presentations and the full orchestra to reveal the secrets behind the sound of the great composers.
Classical buffs actually know this one as Ein Heldenleben and we’re apparently supposed to call it a ‘symphonic tone poem’. But not tonight, as Paul, Stéphane and the Orchestra sneak a look through the curtains at Strauss’ epic blockbuster, A Hero’s Life.
Strauss started composing at six and was a musical sensation by his late teens. He was a dab hand at the horn and a maestro on the conducting podium. So it is little wonder that he had the audacity to describe his musical self portrait as ‘A Hero’s Life’. Strauss was once heard to exclaim ‘I know what I want, and I know what I meant when I wrote this’ – tonight we can all be in the know. The evening concludes with the work performed in its bombastic, horny entirety.
