classical music unveiled before your very ears

NEW! A chance not only to hear sensational music but discover a bit more about it. For beginners and aficionados alike, the irrepressible Paul Rissmann will be our classical guide, using multimedia presentations and the full orchestra to reveal the secrets behind the sound of the great composers.

Depending on who you speak to, this is either ‘Symphony No. 9’, ‘The New World Symphony’ or ‘the one from the bread advert’. Tonight, Paul, Garry and the Orchestra duck under the covers to reveal that there’s more to this popular work than a name.

Are the Symphony’s meaty tunes a result of Dvorák’s upbringing in his dad’s butcher shop? Perhaps not, but we’ll certainly learn a lot more about this fascinating Czech composer (and trainspotter) who, though he achieved superstar status in America, was homesick for his homeland and its wonderful folk tunes. The Symphony is performed in full after the interval (complete with the ‘Hovis’ slow movement).
