A jazz-inspired first half with the exceptional young jazz pianist, Gwilym Simcock, winner of a BBC Jazz Artist of the Year Award.

Gwilym brings his pianistic brilliance and established composing skills to these collaborative works of jazz fusion.

George Enescu’s epic Octet written in 1900 is the most romantic and thrilling of works, and shows the Romanian composer’s great love of both German romanticism and the French school of his teachers, Massenet and Fauré. Following the composer’s instructions in the score, we will enlarge forces to include the whole Scottish Ensemble – not to be missed!

Pre-concert talk 6.30pm featuring tonight’s soloist, Gwilym Simcock, in conversation with Brian Morton.
