Scottish Ensemble Elgar Celebration

City Halls : Grand Hall

Please Note: This is a past event event.

Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.

The different musical worlds of Elgar and Ravel are rarely heard together despite the fact that great works such as Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro and Ravel’s String Quartet (arranged as the Petite Symphonie by Rudolf Barshai) were written only three years apart. This musical coming together celebrates the 150th anniversary of Elgar’s birth and is coupled with the exquisite writing for strings by the Japanese composer, Takemitsu.

There will also be a FREE pre-concert performance from 6.30 to 7pm. This is a world première of two new pieces by SPNM (Society for the Promotion of New Music) short-listed composers, Halyna Ovcharenko and Philip Venables. The works will be introduced by the composers and they will be available in the interval between the two performances for further discussion and conversation!
