The Scottish Ensemble welcome world renowned viola player Lawrence Power to launch their new season. As well as a much anticipated new work by Sally Beamish, Lawrence joins the group as soloist in the beautiful Trauermusik written in London on the sudden death of King George V in 1936. The piece concludes with a Bach chorale, leading into the Brandenburg Concerto No.6. Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence commemorates the composer’s happy visit to Italy, although the work is more Russian in character, akin to the great Serenade.
