Stefan Solyom, the BBC SSO’s new associate Guest Conductor, conducts Sibelius’ dramatic second symphony in his first live broadcast in BBC Radio 3’s Afternoon Performance. The music of Sibelius has a long association with City Halls and the BBC SSO, and Solyom is rapidly gaining attention in his interpretations of these evocative visions of northern lands. The orchestra’s renowned principal horn, David Flack performs Britten’s sensuous Serenade with tenor Andrew Kennedy, and the whole programme kicks off in energetic fashion with a brisk symphony from Haydn
