Very much a composer of our time, Mark-Anthony Turnage has created in Scorched a true jazz classical fusion, successfully overcoming the stylistic barriers that so often pigeonhole music.
The SCO gives the UK premiere of this work for orchestra and jazz trio. Legendary jazz guitarist John Scofield, who worked with Turnage on the stunning Blood on the Floor in the late 1990s, is joined by drummer Pete Erskine and John Patitucci, playing bass and acoustic guitars. The work’s title is a pun on Scofield’s name – SCofield ORCHestratED – as it is made up of twelve Scofield numbers inventively reworked by Turnage for orchestral forces, including some freewheeling improvisation by the renowned trio.
The resulting soundworld conveys a genuine sense of two musicians – Turnage and Scofield – sparking off one another and creating something truly unique. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to share in an exciting musical collaboration.
