Gripping Emotion

An evening of exquisite music by three French masters: Ravel’s glittering miniature Une barque sur l’océan, Debussy’s sumptuous La mer and Poulenc’s dramatic monologue La voix humaine, a one-act opera based on the 1932 play by Jean Cocteau.

A woman tries to get through to her ex-lover on the telephone, but the line keeps on breaking.

This is the last time that the pair will speak before the man – never heard during the work – marries the next day.

Poulenc’s depiction of her desperation is absolutely gripping – expect a heart-rending interpretation from Dame Felicity Lott.

With projected surtitles

6:45pm Pre-concert talk with Christopher Underwood.

Tickets:  £32, £24, £17.50, £13, £10
