Two very different, very popular ‘Scottish’ works surround Haydn’s famous Trumpet Concerto. This is performed by the golden girl of brass playing, Alison Balsom, winner of the Classic FM Listener’s Award at the 2006 Gramophone Awards.

In her hands, the trumpet rivals the human voice for expressivity and tonal colouring. (St Petersburg Times)
