Afternoon Performance Afternoon Performance IV - Haydn's 'Mass in Time of War'

City Halls : Grand Hall

A stellar cast of vocal soloists, together with the BBC Singers, performs one of Haydn’s great late Masses. Canadian conductor Bernard Labadie starts the afternoon with some of the music which Mozart wrote for his mythological opera about the Cretan king Idomeneo, and he and the orchestra close the first half with one of Mozart’s last three – and most popular – symphonies – all three were written in the space of just six weeks!
