Hear and Now Hear and Now 2 - John Zorn Portrait Concert

City Halls : Grand Hall

Please Note: This is a past event event.

Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.

John Zorn’s range and diversity of output is inexhaustible and near unclassifiable. Renowned as a New York avant-garde composer, saxophonist, arranger and record producer, his approach to music has been described as embracing a bit of a Bach chorale, a silky quotation of Ellington, a hysterical atonal squeal or all of those at once.

To mark Zorn’s 60th birthday the BBC SSO and its principal guest conductor Ilan Volkov celebrate his skill as a composer by presenting some of his works for orchestra. The programme includes his short, wordless opera for solo soprano, La Machine de l’être, the meditative Kol Nidre written for solo strings, and the World Premiere of Suppôts et Suppliciations, a BBC Commission.
