The first of Bartók’s three piano concertos comes under the spotlight; written in 1926, it was a landmark in the composer’s new and original style of writing for the piano. Stephen Johnson will examine the score in detail before inimitable Finnish pianist Olli Mustonen, together with Martyn Brabbins and the BBC SSO, gives a complete performance. The performance of the concerto will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
