Pekka Kuusisto and the Hilliard Ensemble join forces for Morimur – a riveting performance of Bach’s Partita in D for solo violin to which the Hilliard Ensemble add the chorales and melodies that Bach concealed within his score: it reveals it to be a memorial for his beloved wife, Barbara, and is all the more moving an experience.
To close, John Tavener’s magisterial and mysterious Towards Silence for four string quartets brings a rare spirituality and drama to the concert: the quartets play form on high, concealed in the balcony of Kelvingrove, weaving a complex web of questions and answers across the great space.
